My mission isn’t just to develop the most dominant chess schools in Iowa, it’s to be the catalyst to a thriving chess culture. I’m gearing up to host a series of electrifying tournaments, with the aim of developing our students well enough to conquer the competition and solidify our reputation as a chess powerhouse. This site will spotlight our achievements and fuel our students with the drive for greatness. This is just the beginning of our journey—I envision a school where all students discover the excitement of chess and reap its many benefits.
About Coach James
I’ve worked with Iowa City/Coralville kids for around 15 - 20 years. I have mastered the game and focused the last 10 years on enhancing my ability to convey that mastery to young children.
Chess Teacher: One who knows Chess and one who knows Teaching. I’ve developed a good number of class A and Experts in my years of training and I’m getting more efficient at the process to the point where I am beginning to develop masters. My goal is to continue my run and apply my chess science methods to a larger group of students.
About the Chess Club
Our chess club meets are aimed to teach students key concepts each week to gradually develop their understanding. During these meetings they will have time to apply their knowledge amongst their class mates in the form of an ongoing tournament. Registration is limited to about 20 students.
