Last weekend I traveled to Burlington, my hometown, at the south east corner of Iowa. Now, I wouldn’t travel there just for sightseeing because I never thought the town was that interesting. However, my curiosity had gotten the best of me and I spent some time checking out my old home. I would have checked my middle too but it had burnt down since I had last been there.
This photograph was an older picture taken probably a few years earlier in the summer. I feel like there were fewer trees in its 2020 photo and the house on the right next to it was abandoned. The siding had been stripped and looked like it was being prepared for demolition. During my years as an elementary schooler, there was an older couple in that house, probably 60s I would guess (that was over 20 years ago).
Anyhow, one of the games that was on my Wish list was my 2nd round game against Anjanaya Rao. He is an outstanding 4th grader that competed in many of the same tournaments I have played in and has also competed against many of my students. I knew Anjanaya was a vicious attacker, so I wanted to check out his potential for myself.
