Let There Be Light 19 Returns October 17
Looking for a full day of fast-paced chess action? Let There Be Light 19 is coming to Iowa City on Saturday, October 17, 2026, offering both an afternoon tournament and an evening event for players of all skill levels.
The tournament will be held at Christ the King Church, 325 Mormon Trek Blvd, Iowa City, IA.
Afternoon Event
The afternoon tournament features a 5-round Swiss that is both US Chess and FIDE rated. Games begin at 1:00 PM, with additional rounds starting as soon as possible after each round concludes.
The time control is G/15 with a 2-second delay, making for a fast and exciting afternoon of chess.
Prizes
Trophies will be awarded to:
1st through 5th Place
Best Under 1000
Best Under 800
Best Under 600
Best Under 400
Best Unrated Player
Entry fee: $25
On-site registration begins at 12:00 PM.
Evening Event
Players looking for even more chess can stay for the evening tournament, a 3-round Swiss that is US Chess regular-rated and FIDE rapid-rated.
Round 1 starts at 5:00 PM, with remaining rounds played as soon as possible.
The time control is G/30 with a 5-second delay.
There are no prize awards for the evening section, but players will have the opportunity to gain valuable rating points.
Entry fee: $7
On-site registration begins at 4:00 PM.
Additional Information
A current US Chess membership is required to participate. Boards and clocks will be provided, although players are encouraged to bring a clock if they have one.
Free scholastic memberships are available with entry for eligible players whose memberships have expired or will expire within the next month. Free USA FIDE memberships will also be available on-site.
