The overall goal is of this event is to allow the schools I work with to have some time to practice against players they do not usually encounter in our weekly chess club meetings.
The Thunder Theme event is a monthly event that features a key position that participants will have nearly a month to understand before they are matched to test their preparation. However, for our first meeting, the players are getting the key position at the event so the prep time will go into effect in future events posted in advance on my site.
Time Management {2-Hour Event}
It is important you register for this event because on-site registration will likely not be possible or would be greatly discouraged because it would require me to manually enter information into my pairing scripts to add a new player into the event (not happening…).
The First Hour
This period of time is mostly dedicated to free play where the players will be encouraged to challenge players from other schools to get a feel for handling different playing styles. I am planning to choose a matchup or two from the group to record in a faster time control. Yeah, I have a few chess clocks that are still functioning so I will be setting up some key matchups.
The Second Hour
The original idea in this thematic event is to hold two serious matchups in this time period where the players would play either the white or black side of the position they would have had weeks to prepare for. So... this week I will have a position, but they won't get much more than the introduction of the position to get an edge over their opponent.
